In 2003, our education group based in Miami launched the Meet The Professors audio series. This unique case-based activity features the recorded proceedings from small, closed tumor panel meetings during which community-based medical oncologists present challenging cases from their clinics to a group of clinical investigators. Over the years, these events have produced some of the most compelling, interesting and relevant educational discussions we have witnessed.
As such, we have long believed that the approach employed for these meetings would be an ideal educational format for a live learner audience, and for that reason we are pleased to host our inaugural live Meet The Professors program.
We have invited three practicing oncologists to present deidentified cases from their practices to our faculty of clinical investigators. I will moderate and for each case presentation will encourage the faculty to discuss and debate appropriate therapeutic approaches based on published research data, potential clinical trial options and the physical, psychosocial and environmental factors that influence decision-making.
To make this event even more interesting, we will utilize interactive keypad polling to enable attendees to provide their “second opinions” for each case. We have also set aside time for audience members to present and receive comments on their own cases. One of the most important aspects of this initiative is that the proceedings will be recorded, edited and distributed to thousands of United States-based clinicians as a special edition of the Meet The Professors series.
