MIAMI BREAST CANCER CONFERENCE

Held each year in late February, the Miami Breast Cancer Conference (MBCC) attracts over 1,000 breast surgeons and medical oncologists. With the main goal of providing practical answers to the current and future concerns of community clinicians, The Miami Meeting attracts a loyal following that returns year after year to this unique and relevant educational event.

Since the mid-90s, Breast Cancer Update has been an instrumental partner of the MBCC. In 1997, following Dr Neil Love’s appointment as co-director of the meeting, Breast Cancer Update took on a greater role in the development of the meeting content and structure.

In 2000, the MBCC meeting chairs asked the Breast Cancer Update team to create, organize and direct a medical oncology track for the conference. This program was extremely successful in incorporating issues related to the oncologist’s role in breast cancer management and received very high scores on follow-up evaluations from the audience.

For 2003, the “oncology track” took the form of several Meet-the-Professor sessions. These sessions offered medical oncologists the opportunity to detail highly complex case presentations from their practice and seek feedback from national and international breast cancer research leaders on these cases. These case-based education sessions were unique in their format and impact and they received some of conference’s the highest scores on attendee evaluations.

Today, Breast Cancer Update is directly responsible for the conference’s annual meeting workbook, general session interactive questions and nightly newsletters. Dr Love continues to moderate several of the panel discussions as well as the Meet-the-Professor sessions for medical oncologists. Breast Cancer Update also hosts the conference’s Wednesday-night educational poster session and its own on-site educational booth.
