SAN ANTONIO BREAST CANCER SYMPOSIUM

The San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium is perhaps the most important international breast cancer conference, as it attracts more than 5,000 international researchers, basic scientists and clinicians each year. The conference focuses heavily on clinical research and is annually the site of many of the most anticipated and significant presentations of new data sets and clinical trial results.

In 2001, after attending the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Conference and experiencing RTP’s clinical trials education exhibit there, Dr C. Kent Osborne, Co-Director of the SABCS approached the company about producing a similar exhibit for that meeting.

The 25th Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium Clinical Trials Exhibit was the direct result of collaboration between the SABCS steering committee and RTP. Consistent with the conference’s emphasis on clinical research, the 16,000 square-foot exhibit was comprised of 24 six-by-four foot posters presenting background and perspectives on many of the most important issues in breast cancer research and their potential impact on patient care.

The exhibit also hosted several Meet-the-Professor sessions where conference attendees had the opportunity to ask questions of the researchers related to their newly presented data sets. A special issue of the Breast Cancer Update audio series, which provided research leader commentary on the topics discussed and PDF files of the posters, supplemented the exhibit. Over 5,000 copies (multiple copies were commonly requested) of the enhanced CD were distributed free to conference attendees. Based upon extensive amount of positive feedback from conference attendees, SABCS invited RTP to produce a similar exhibit in December 2004.
